おそらくマウリア朝統治に成功したアショカ王（以前載せた「仏教の台頭」というタイトルのブログをご参照ください。）のことを知っていた蘇我氏は日本の政にも仏教を取り入れようと考えていました。

当時最先端の技術と知識や文化を人々に与えられる仏教を取り入れて大陸の国々が栄えていたかも把握していたのでしょう。
They also must have known that some countries prospered by taking in Buddhism which could give people the cutting-edge technology, knowledge, and culture of the time.
そんな蘇我氏の考えに激しく抵抗していたのが当時有力であった保守派の豪族の物部氏でした。
A powerful and conservative clan, Mononobe Clan strongly went against such Soga Clan’s future vision at the time.
両者は武力衝突するに至り、587年に物部氏は敗北しました。
They ended up having a battle, and Mononobe Clan got defeated in 587.
