徳川家重が1745年に9代将軍となり、1760年に10代将軍となった徳川家治は田沼意次を老中に起用しました。
Ieshige Tokugawa became the 9th Shogun in 1716, and once Ieharu Tokugawa became the 10th Shogun in 1760, he appointed Okitsugu Tanuma a Roju.
田沼意次は経済活動を活性化することで国富を増やすため、幕府と藩に株仲間という日本製ギルドの仕組みを導入させ、株仲間による国内の商業活動や海外貿易を奨励させました。
Aiming to make Japan richer by vitalizing economy, Okitsugu Tanuma had Bakufu and the Domains implement Japan’s guild system and had them encourage Japan’s guilds’ domestic commerce and international trade.
この株仲間に入るには冥加金という入会料を幕府か藩に支払わなければならず、冥加金は幕府や藩の財源を潤しました。
Since one had to pay a certain amount of money to Bakufu or the Domain to have the privilege of joining a Japan’s guild, Bakfu and some Domains became financially well off.
確かに経済は活性化し、権力者や一部の民は経済的に潤った反面、通貨インフレが生じて多くの農民や町民を苦しむことになってしまいました。
His policy certainly vitalized economy yet, the power and only a few people got rich while many flamers and citizens of the towns rather had to suffer from the currency inflation.
そのため、1751から1764年までと1781年から1789年までに辣腕を振るった田沼意次は失脚することになり、最終的に幕府や藩は株仲間の解散命令を出しました。
Consequently, although he had great achievements from 1751 to 1764 and from 1781 to 1789, he ended up losing his position, and Bakufu and the Domains ordered the winding-up of Japan’s guilds at the end.
