お社に向かう境内の参道の両端には「狛犬」という2つの石像があります。
On either side of the way to a Shinto shrine hall, there are the 2 stone statutes called, “Komainu”.
口を開いている阿形（あぎょう）の方はユニコーンであり、「あ」というすべての始まりを表す言靈を発しています。
One of them is a unicorn opening its mouse saying “a” that represents the beginning of everything.
口を閉じている吽形（うんぎょう）の方はライオンであり、「ん」というすべての終わりを表す言靈を発しています。
The other one is a lion closing its mouse saying “un” (Since it’s ending with a no voice sound, it must be “m”.) that represents the end of everything.
「言靈」というタイトルの記念すべきブログ第１号でも書かせていただいたとおり、「あうん」、「オウム」、「アーメン」にはすべて（この宇宙の）「全真理」という意味です。
As mentioned in my very first weblog article titled, “Kototama,” “Aun”, “Aum”, “Amen” all mean “the whole truth” (of the universe).
これは恰も「狛犬の間を通っていくそこのあなたは今から神とご対面しますよ。」と告げられているように思えます。
I think this means that once one passes the way between Komainu, one’s going to face “the whole truth” (of the universe), God.
ちなみに、タナクという記録書によると、古代イスラエル王国の神殿の神の玉座には両端にユニコーンとライオンの像が置いてあったようです。
By the way, according to Tanakh, the unicorn and the lion statues were also on either side of the God’s throne at the Temple in ancient Israel.
