古代ヘブライ語で「神の民」を意味する「やまと」には長い日本の歴史の中でいろんな漢字の当て字（「邪馬台」、「倭」、「大倭」、「大和」、「日本」などがあり、現在では「大和」表記が定着）が宛がわれてきました。
In a long history of Japan, “Yamato” meaning “the people of God” in ancient Hebrew has been written with several different Chinese Characters.
「大和」という民族名は後に地名、統治機関名、国名としても定着していったんだろうと推察します。
I guess that the name of the ethnic group, “Yamato” also turned the name of the region, the government, and the country later on.
私は大和が勝ち上がった一王国や一小国のといったものではなく、当時西日本に存在していた30ほどの王国や小国を纏めていた統治機関をそう呼んでいたのではないかと考えています。
I don’t think Yamato was the name of the champion of the kingdoms and the states, but it was more like the name of a coalition government of about the 30 kingdoms and states in West Japan at the time.
3世紀中期までには大和は正式な日本の中央集権的統治機関として形成され、その機能を果たしていたものと思われます。
Yamato has been formed as Japan’s official central government and started functioning no later than the middle of the 3rd Century.
