持統天皇はとりわけ大変信心深く、天武天皇が皇位に就かれていた頃から天武天皇とともに神社仏閣を厚遇されておられました。

なお、あの13世紀超執り行われている神宮の「式年遷宮」をお始めになられたのは持統天皇です。
Jito Empress was actually the one who initiated the famous event, “Shikinen Senku” of the Shrine which has been conducted for over 13 centuries.
ちなみに、2013年の神宮式年遷宮の公式セレモニーに参列するため、ユダヤ教最高指導者もイスラエルから来られています。
By the way, even the highest-ranking Jewish rabbi from Israel attended the official ceremony of this very event in 2013.
また、持統天皇は外観も内装も荘厳な仏教寺院の建設や素晴らしく美しい仏像作りのために必要な巨額の寄付金を納められておられたようです。
Also, she donated to build some magnificent looking Buddhism temples and to make some splendidly beautiful Buddhism statutes.
