天智天皇は「藤原」という氏を669年に中臣鎌足が亡くなる前日に与えていました。
A day before Kamatari Nakatomi died in 669, Tenji Emperor had given him the family name, “Fujiwara”.
藤原鎌足の子の藤原不比等は非常に有能な大臣となり、多くの大きな政策を成功させました。
Kamatari Fujiwara’s son, Fuhito Fujiwara became a highly competent minister, and he completed many major projects successfully.
藤原不比等は天智天皇、天武天皇のみならず、天武天皇が崩御された後には天武天皇の子の草壁皇子も支えました。
He supported not only Tenji Emperor and Tenmu Emperor but also Tenmu Emperor’s son, Prince Kusakabe after Tenmu Emperor demised.
草壁皇子の子の軽皇子が皇位継承年齢に達する前に草壁皇子が突然薨去され、天武天皇の皇后が690年に持統天皇として皇位を継がれると、藤原不比等は持統天皇も支えました。
Tenmu Emperor’s wife came to the throne as Jito Empress in 690 because when Prince Kusakabe suddenly deceased, Prince Kusakabe’s son, Prince Karu wasn’t old enough to come to the throne; then, Fuhito Fujiwara supported Jito Empress as well.
そして、藤原（奈良県）に当時までで最も立派な都となった藤原京が694年に建設されました。
In 694, the greatest capital ever constructed at the time, Fujiwara Capital in Fujiwara (Nara Prefecture) was built.
