高句麗が敗れると新羅は中国に牙を剥いたため、中国は日本が新羅を援護しないよう日本と和睦を結びました。

天智天皇が病床に就いたとき、大きな支えであった弟の大海人皇子を呼び出し、後に皇位を継ぐよう言いました。
When Tenji Emperor became sick in bed, to ask him to be the next Emperor, he called in his brother who had been his great supporter, Prince Ooama.
大海人皇子はこれを断り、天智天皇の子である大友皇子を皇太子にすることを進言されました。
Prince Ooama declined it, and he instead suggested him to designate his son, Prince Ootomo the Crown Prince.
そして、大海人皇子は出家して吉野（奈良県）へと隠居され、671年に天智天皇は崩御されました。
Prince Ooama moved to Yoshino (Nara Prefecture) to spend his secluded life as a monk there, and Tenji Emperor demised in 671.
