高句麗、新羅、百済という3つの王朝が7世紀頃の朝鮮半島を治めていました。
Around the 7th Century, Korea was ruled by the 3 dynasties called, Koguryo, Shinra, and Paekche.
中国の侵略を防ぐために3王朝は統一されている必要があったため、高句麗と百済の同盟軍は655年に新羅に侵攻しました。
To prevent China’s invasion, they had to be united, so the allied force of Koguryo and Paekche invaded Shinra in 655.
その5年後に中国が新羅に援護したことで百済が新羅に敗れたため、百済は日本に助けを求めました。
5 years later, China came in to support Shinra, and Shinra defeated Paekche; so, Paekche asked Japan for help.
中大兄皇子は約4万もの兵を送りましたが、中国は新羅に約13万もの兵を送りました。
Even though Eldest Prince Naka sent about 40,000 soldiers in 663, China sent about 130,000 soldiers to support Shinra.
白村江の戦いの惨敗により中大兄皇子は日本の中国に対する国防を強化する緊急性と必要性を感じ、全国に多くの防壁や砦を作るよう命じました。
Seeing his troops totally devastated in the Battle of Hakusukinoe, Eldest Prince Naka felt that it’s urgent and necessary to reinforce Japan’s national defense against China, and he ordered to build many banks and fortresses throughout Japan.
