Dazai (the head of the officials) Government Office was placed in Fukuoka Prefecture since it was the highly crucial spot for Japan’s diplomacy and national defense at the time.
また、大宰府は九州ならびに壱岐と対馬を管轄していました。
Kyushu Island, Iki Island, and Tsushima Island were under the jurisdiction of it as well.
大宝律令制定以前から大宰府自体は配備されていたのですが、8世紀に入ってようやく完全に機能し始める状態に至りました。
Although it had been there before Taiho Codes were established, it hadn’t been ready yet to fully function until the 8th Century.
朝廷は大宰府に（今日の知事のような）大宰と（今日の高級官僚のような）優秀な官吏を太宰府に派遣していました。
