都にいた源行家は源頼朝の地位を奪い取って独立国を西日本に建てようと野心を燃やしていました。
Yukiie Minamoto who was in the capital was having an ambition to take over Yoritomo Minamoto’s post and to establish an independent state in West Japan.
それを知っていた源頼朝は源行家が源義経にその企みに加わるよう説くことを想定していました。
Knowing that, Yoritomo Minamoto anticipated that he would talk Yoshitsune Minamoto into joining his plot.
そして、源義経の本心を試すため、源頼朝は源義経に源行家の討伐を命じました。
To see how he would respond, he ordered Yoshitsune Minamoto to subjugate Yukiie Minamoto.
源義経は、源行家が病（明らかな仮病）に伏せているため、それが治った後に討伐しに行くと答えました。
Yoshitsune Minamoto replied that he would comply after Yukiie Minamoto recovers from his (obviously bogus) illness.
そのため、源頼朝は源行家と弟の源義経の両者の討伐を決めざるをえなくなりました。
Consequently, Yoritomo Minamoto had to make up his mind to subjugate both Yukiie Minamoto and his brother, Yoshitsune Minamoto.
