北条義時が1224年に亡くなり、子の北条泰時が3代執権となりました。
Yoshitoki Hojo died in 1224, and his son, Yasutoki Hojo became the 3rd Shikken.
その翌年に北条泰時は「連署」という役職と「評定衆」という機関を新たに設けました。
In the following year, Yasutoki established the new post, “Rensho” and the new office, “Hyojoshu”.
Rensho was the post to consult Shikken when he makes political decisions and to countersign them.
評定衆は最有力御家人の代表で構成される合議制の機関であり、執権の政治決定を補佐する機関でした。
Hyojoshu was the council system which consisted of the representatives of the most powerful Gokenin, and they assisted Shikken when he makes political decisions.
幕府と御家人との関係を緊密にしておくため、北条泰時は幕府の政治的決定に御家人を参与させたのです。
To keep the close relationaship between Bakufu and Gokenin, he made Gokenin get involved in making Bakufu’s political decisions.
