北条泰時は1232年に初の武士の規律となった「御成敗式目」を定めました。
Yasutoki Hojo established the first code of Samurai, “Goseibai Shikimoku” in 1232.
御成敗式目は当初51条からなる武士の世界の慣習法を成文法としたものでした。
Goseibai Shikimoku was the statutes of common law in Samurai society, and it originally had 51 articles.
It consisted of administrative, civil, and criminal codes of Samurai.
後に多くの条文が追加されてはいきましたが、追加条文も元々の条文を常に参考にして書かれていたというほど御成敗式目は大変優れたものでした。
Although many other articles had been added later, the original ones were so well written that they had always served as the excellent source of reference for the later ones.
