白河法皇が薨去すると、今度は鳥羽天皇が鳥羽上皇となって院政を敷き始めました。
After Shirakawa Dharma Emperor deceased, Toba Emperor turned Toba Grand Emperor and began exercising the political power of the dynasty next.
鳥羽上皇は、後に近衛天皇として即位される鳥羽天皇の子に譲位することで早々に院政を敷けるようになると巧みに崇徳天皇を説きました。
He cleverly talked Sutoku Emperor into abdicating and enthroning Konoe Emperor who later became Konoe Emperor so he would soon be able to exercise the political power of the dynasty.
ところが、崇徳天皇が1142年に譲位されると、崇徳天皇は今上天皇の実父でない以上、上皇となる資格を欠いていることを鳥羽上皇は明らかにしたのです。
However, as soon as Sutoku Emperor abdicated and enthroned Konoe Emperor in 1142, he articulated that since Sutoku Emperor wasn’t Konoe Emperor’s real father, he wasn’t eligible to be a Grand Emperor.
さらに、鳥羽上皇は崇徳天皇の実子を皇太子にせず、後に後白河天皇として即位される鳥羽上皇の実子を皇太子としました。
Plus, he didn’t let Sutoku Emperor’s real son be the crown prince, but he made his son who later became Goshirakawa Emperor be the crown prince.
鳥羽上皇は、崇徳天皇が実際には自分の実子でなく、白河法皇の実子であることをとても強く疑っていたのかもしれません。
