この戦いが5年に及ぶ源平合戦の最終戦となり、三種の神器がいかにその後の国の統治に重要な意味を持つかを理解していた源頼朝は、源義経に必ずすべての三種の神器を無事に持ち帰るよう命じていました。

然るに、本船に搭乗していたすべての平氏のトップたちが戦いの終わりに安徳天皇と三種の神器とともに海に身を投げる事態を源義経は防げませんでした。
However, at the end of the battle, he failed to prevent the situation in which all Heishi’s top members on the main naval boat threw themselves into the sea with Antoku Emperor and the 3 Divine Treasures.
こうして平氏は滅亡しました。
Thus, Heishi perished.
