嘗て蝦夷地と呼ばれた東北地方を征服した源頼朝は、朝廷に征夷大将軍に任命するよう要求しました。
Having conquered the northeastern part of Honshu Island, Yoritomo Minamoto requested the dynasty to appoint him Seii Great Shogun.
源頼朝は朝廷の正統な権威づけにより鎌倉幕府に強大な政治権力を持たせようとしていたのに対し、政治権力が朝廷から幕府へ移ってしまうことに反対していた後白河法皇は1192年に薨去されるまでこれを拒み続けていました。
While he wanted Kamakura Bakufu to be legitimately authorized by the dynasty and to have significant political power, Goshirakara Dharma Emperor who was opposing to transfer of the political power from the dynasty to Bakufu had been refusing his request until he demised in 1192.
しかし、後白河法皇が薨去されると、朝廷は間もなく源頼朝を征夷大将軍に任命しました。
However, as soon as Goshirakara Dharma Emperor demised, the dynasty appointed Yoritomo Minamoto Seii Great Shogun.
こうして鎌倉時代が始まりました。
This was how Kamakura Period started.
